To be able to interface with either a utility gas or electricity meter, in order to record the energy consumption from the meter on an energy management system, it is necessary to engage the utility company in question to provide a pulsed output from the meter.
In order to record energy consumption on an Energy Management System, it is necessary for Utility meters to provide a pulse output. It is necessary to engage the relevant Utility Company in order to arrange this.
This document describes the process for requesting a pulse output on a Utility Gas meter or Utility Electricity meter. 539.08 KB |

Automatic Meter Reading, or AMR, is the technology used to automatically collect consumption data from utility meters and transfer that data to a central database for billing, troubleshooting, and analysing.
This technology saves utility companies the expense of periodic trips to each physical location to read a meter. Another advantage is that billing can be based on near real-time consumption rather than on estimates based on past or predicted consumption.
The Automatic Meter Reading (AMR) can either be done by the utility company or by companies that specialise in meter reading and metering technology.
The data stream from the utility meter that the AMR company collects for billing purposes can also be imported automatically onto Cylon Active Energy for energy management purposes with no additional hardware required on site to interface with the utility meter.
The process to get this setup involves the end user providing a Letter of Authority (LOA) to each supplier to allow Cylon Active Energy to request the data directly from the supplier. A sample LOA is shown overleaf, and must be submitted on the headed paper of the company who pays the bill.
Once this is in place Cylon Active Energy can then discuss with the AMR company the technical details of how the data is to be transferred. Typically the data is contained in a CSV file and is transferred either over email or via File Transfer Protocol (FTP). 450.92 KB |
